Balu & die Surfgrammeln release Los Chicharrones del Surf

Balu & die Surfgrammeln - Los Chicharrones del Surf

This one has been available for streaming for a while, but like so many others their vinyl 10" got stuck in an enormous backlog. But the wait is over, and you can now spin these songs on your turntable. Balu & die Surfgrammeln have a pretty trad, upbeat surf sound interspersed with a lot of vintage audio clips. I love the bounce in "Der Zerfall Von Backerbsen" and the percussion in their version of Comanche.

And of course, gotta love that great Shawn Dickinson artwork.

You can order it from Green Cookie or through bandcamp.

13th Magic Skull release Brave Coast Wild Recordings

13th Magic Skull - Brave Coast Wild Recordings

13th Magic Skull's last record "Sungazing in Rapa Nui" was a huge surprise hit last year. I gave it an  and definitely gave it a lot of thought for the big prize. They've just got so much punch that I'm always surprised when I give it another listen and hear a pretty pure surf sound.

The Exotics release Twangy Surf & Spy Themes

The Exotics - Twangy Surf & Spy Themes

The Exotics have two LPs under their belt: 1996's Go Go Guitars and 2009's The Lost Room as well as a few EPs. A retrospective album like this works in a time sense at over 20 years, but it's still pretty easy to pick up the complete collection too. Their bandcamp says this has a few new and remixed tracks, but I haven't figured out which ones those are.

The Other Timelines release s/t EP

The Other Timelines - The Other Timelines

Double Crown had been teasing a mystery EP in a few of their newsletters and I confess I had no clue. It turns out it was a new outfit with Sean Berry, Mr. Double Crown himself, in the lineup! He's joined by Jonny Browning of Jonny and the Shamen/MOAM and Hollis Pilling. It's a modest collection of songs, not terribly loud or aggressive, more quirky and creepy, but the MOAM lineage definitely comes through. Three of the tracks are originals, but I actually really like their take on the Ventures' VampCamp where they've sped it up to a less creepy tempo. Sounds like a new song!

The Huckleberry Fins release Pipe Dreams

The Huckleberry Fins - Pipe Dreams

OK I think the pun here is that normally Huckleberry Finn has Two N's, whereas this band has one making them sea creatures. I don't know a whole lot about these guys, other than that they seem to have been playing shows around NY state for one or two years now. They've got the full range of purchasing options available: LP, Cassette, CD, and digital download. You can any of those from their .

Foxtrot Sierra and The Uniforms release Surfin' Krautlifornia

Foxtrot Sierra and The Uniforms - Surfin' Krautlifornia

Well here's something else for ya. Surfin' Krautlifornia is an odd mix of synthesizers, sound effects, psychedelic meanderings, and strange thoughts standing on a foundation of surf guitar bubbling underneath. With an airplane, a storm trooper, graffitti, and a cool-lookin' dude wearing shades on the cover, I'm not even going to try to piece together what they're after. Maybe it's just to get you to approach this thing with some curiosity.

Apparently they've got cassette and vinyl copies out there, but you can also listen to it the ol' bandcamp.

Los Blue Marinos release Off the Lip EP

Los Blue Marinos - Off the Lip EP

The last EP from  was back in September of 2014 and it was pretty solid. This one's been out for about two months now and there's even more to be excited about. This is still a very trad surf sound but with an even better momentum than before. The musical thoughts behind these songs are really concise and focused, helping them really stick in your head.

Satan's Pilgrims release Frankenstomp

Satan's Pilgrims - Frankenstomp

A while ago Satan's Pilgrims held a to fund a trip to Europe and their compilation of singles, live cuts, and unreleased tracks titled "Frankenstomp". That album has found its way into a number of hands since the kickstarter, but for those of us that didn't go that route, we can now buy it too! I've heard great things about it, which is unsurprising because everything they've done has been quality.

Puta Madre Brothers release Amor y Basura

Puta Madre Brothers - Amor y Basura

Puta Madre Brothers are a pretty oddball group. A three man one-man band (each member plays guitar and drums simultaneously), their sound is pretty unique. There's a semi tex-mex sound, but with an off-kilter beat, and all sorts of what-not thrown into the blender. It's not entirely instrumental, but it's instrumental enough. Here, have the description from , I like what they say more.

The Satin Chaps release Stompin' 7"

Just a few weeks ago I was listening to The (Fabulous) Wailers' "Tall Cool One" LP and thinking "Why are there not thousands of bands still making this stuff?". I just wanna stomp and twist and dance and leave my music at that!

The Satin Chaps get it! They've got some swingin' organ, honkin' brass, and percussion ready to make you move. Too bad two tracks aren't even enough to work up a sweat, but they're both right on target!
