Todays' show: Can Science Overcome the Forces of Evil?

Updated 3/3/2015

RESULTS: EVIL WAS THWARTED

Evil dominated for the entire first hour, then defenders of scienced rushed in shortly after 5 o'clock. Science rocketed ahead with a commanding lead.

Evil: $150

Science:$550

So the show is over, the outcome won't change, but the station still sorely needs money to offset our operating costs. If you like any facet of what I'm doing, please consider donating.

Last year during our annual pledge drive I allowed listeners to donate in the name of GOOD or EVIL.

The forces of EVIL easily prevailed.

Can EVIL be stopped? Can man use his resourcefulness in the field of SCIENCE to thwart it?

IT'S UP TO YOU TO FIND OUT

If you donate to WTUL today, please make a note as to whether you pledge for EVIL or for SCIENCE (and also mention Storm Surge of Reverb on the web form). For every donation I will either play a dark or angry horror surf track (Coffin Daggers for instance) OR a wonderous wowee zowee weirdo sciencey track (Man? ... or Astro-Man will definitely be in the lineup). If nobody is donating at that moment, I will continue to play whatever type has raised the most money.

"so wait... like, in the real world, why should I donate?"

Because college radio is a rare thing, and it's one of the few places where you could find 2 hours of instro music on the radio. You seem to really like that stuff, as you are here on this website. If I didn't have access to that FM licencense, my radio show wouldn't exist, this website wouldn't exist, and I don't know what I'd be doing. By the way, everything I do radio or SSOR related are volunteer. The closest thing I get to payment is when people send in their music. And trust me, I buy the overwhleming majority of it out of my own pocket.

Donating to a radio station shouldn't feel like a chore or a responsibility. We talk about it so much it can feel that way. But it should be something to be proud of. You're doing your part to keep the world a little stranger. I grew up listening to this very same radio station. It showed me a lot of music I might never have heard otherwise. Community radio is important to me because it's a useful tool in the fight against a monoculture. It doesn't observe market data and aim for the large demographics; it shoots for what falls in the cracks. Surf and instro music are undeniably in those cracks.
