The Tarantinos NYC have a new LP out chock full of film soundtrack surf covers. They've been at it for a while though, and they're starting to dig pretty damn deep - a few covers that I certainly haven't heard! They've also written a few originals! I've only heard a few of the samples on CDbaby, but it sounds like it's got a good punch and a good traditional surf sound.

The King of the Surf Guitar is heading to New Orleans on April 12th (Sunday). Thanks to WTUL's ticket coordinator being pretty great at what he does, I've got a phone interview with him for the second half of tomorrow's show. This isn't the first interview I've done with him (trying to find the old one) and based on the last one chances are he'll run the show on his own, but I'm open to any suggestions for prompts. I have a few ideas of my own but I also used a bunch of them the first time around.
Of course, I'll edit it down for internet consumption afterwards.
The latest from Green Cookie! The Surfin Barmaids started recording their first LP wayyy back in 1998 and they're still kickin out solid surf tunes today. This one's got a good mix of originals and covers. It's also got a limited run 10" vinyl release accompanying it.
The Reverb Syndicate have done spy, space, western... all themes well known to the instro realm. However, the sort of TRON take on this one isn't something that you see much. Love the nerd jokes in song titles like "Hello World" and "Kernel Panic in E Minor"
While this blog is mostly focused surf fans worldwide, I can't not let Louisianans know about a few things this week.
